What does a merger mean?

Cobalt Credit Union and Creighton Federal Credit Union merged on August 1, 2024, combining resources to enhance your banking experience. Cobalt Credit Union has served members since 1946, is federally insured by NCUA, and is an equal housing lender.

Why did we merge?

Tom Kjar, former President of Creighton Federal Credit Union, retired after serving 32 years.

How will the merger benefit me as a member?

Cobalt Credit Union is a full-service financial provider and will offer Creighton Federal Credit Union members products and services they did not have access to before the merger. Examples: cutting-edge mobile and digital banking, extended branch and call center hours, video banking via our live chat feature below, free bill pay, instant-issue debit cards, mortgages and home equity loans, business banking services, Visa credit cards, wealth management services, professional loans, and commercial loans.

What safeguards are in place to ensure my money is secure during the transition?

Cobalt Credit Union, with $1.3 billion in assets and 120,000 members, is federally insured by the NCUA. We have 29 branch locations and are an award-winning institution in Nebraska.

What is the final day I can access Creighton FCU online banking?

The last day to access Creighton’s online banking is October 31. Once you have opened your Cobalt account(s), you will be able to register in Cobalt digital banking.

Debit Cards and Account Information

Will there be any disruptions to accessing my money?

No, we do not anticipate any disruptions.

Can I move my account to Cobalt today?

If you have not already moved your account to Cobalt, you must wait for the conversion on October 31, which will automatically transition your Creighton accounts over to Cobalt.

Will my checking account number change?

We will strive to keep your checking account number the same. However, some changes may be necessary. If your checking account number is affected, we will notify you with further details in October.

Will my Creighton debit card work during the transition?

Your existing Creighton Federal Credit Union debit card will continue to work through the close of business on October 31. In October, you will receive a Cobalt Credit Union debit card, which will be linked to your new accounts starting November 1.

Will my ATM or debit card PIN (personal identification number) change?

Your Creighton debit card PIN will not be impacted during the transition. When you receive your Cobalt debit card, you’ll be able to activate the new card using a PIN of your choice. You can also change your Cobalt debit card PIN at any time through Cobalt’s Online and Mobile Banking.

When will I receive my debit card?

New Cobalt debit cards will be mailed prior to the conversion on October 31. If you visit a Cobalt branch to open your accounts prior to October 31, you will have access to a free instant-issue debit card and can access your account immediately.

When you receive your new debit card, please activate it as soon as possible to ensure it is ready for use. You can also view your new debit card through Cobalt’s Online and Mobile Banking for convenient access. However, please remember that your Cobalt debit card will not be ready for use until November 1.

When will the accounts move to Cobalt?

Cobalt will complete the electronic conversion on October 31.

Will the routing number change?

Yes. Cobalt Credit Union’s routing number is 304083448. The Cobalt routing number is not in place until your account is transferred to Cobalt.

Payments and Transfers

Will my scheduled external transfers, automatic payments, and direct deposits continue without interruption during the transition?

Once you receive your new Cobalt account number(s) and routing number, you will need to set up new recurring payments, external transfers, and direct deposits. Please ensure these updates are made as soon as possible to avoid delays in processing your payments, deposits, and transfers. While we will make every effort to honor transfers during the first six months following the conversion, we cannot guarantee there will be no disruptions.

Will the conversion affect any checks I write?

Any existing Creighton checks you write will be honored for six months following the conversion on October 31. To order your Cobalt Credit Union checks, visit any of our Cobalt branch locations, contact us through Video Banking via our live chat feature below, or start the process online.

Will my fees change at Cobalt?

Cobalt's fees are minimal but may differ. Please review our fee schedule for details.

Will any of the products I have change?

Yes, all of your existing products will be transitioned to comparable products offered by Cobalt. Communication detailing the transition was provided in early October.

How do I make payments on my Creighton FCU credit card after the conversion?

Your credit card will not convert to a Cobalt credit card. Effective October 31, 2024, Cobalt will no longer accept Creighton credit card payments at our branch locations. To make payments after this date, you can:

  • Make online payments via EZCard at ezcardinfo.com
  • Call FIS at 800.808.7230
  • Mail your payment to FIS, PO BOX 4519, Carol Stream, IL 60197

Online Banking and Bill Pay

What is the final day I can access Creighton FCU online banking?

The last day to access Creighton’s online banking is October 31. Once you have opened your Cobalt account(s) (see details in the FAQs above), you can register in Cobalt digital banking.

Will I have access to my statement history?
  • Yes, you will have access to your Creighton statement history in Cobalt’s digital banking by the end of the year. If you need access to your Creighton statements before year-end, visit any of our branch locations or contact us through Video Banking via our live chat feature below.
When is the last day I can use Remote Deposit Capture in Creighton FCU Digital Banking?

The last day to use Remote Deposit Capture in Creighton Digital Banking is October 28, 2024. After this date, you will need to use Cobalt Credit Union’s Digital Banking platform for remote deposit services.

Will my account transaction history transfer over in Online Banking?

No, your transaction history will not transfer over. However, you will still be able to review your past transactions on your previous monthly statements.

Will my monthly statement come from Creighton or Cobalt on November 1?

You will receive your October monthly statement from Creighton. Cobalt will issue your monthly statement starting in November.

Will I need to set up new bill pay payees and payments?

Yes, your current payees and payment details will need to be re-established in Cobalt’s digital banking system. We recommend saving a copy of your existing payments, payees and bill pay history prior to the system conversion on October 31, as this information will not be transferred.

When is the last day I can schedule a bill payment?

The last day you can schedule a payment in Creighton’s bill pay system is October 28. Any payments after this date must be scheduled in Cobalt’s bill pay system.

Loans, Credit Cards, and Rates

Will my current Certificate of Deposit or loan rate remain through the existing term?

Your Certificate of Deposit and loan rates and terms will not change. You will receive a letter disclosing your new certificate rates and terms as your certificate matures.

Will I need to set up new automatic payments for my loan?

If your loan is with Creighton and payments are made from your Creighton checking account, your loan payments will transfer automatically.

However, if either your loan or checking account is with another institution, you will need to set up new recurring payments using your new Cobalt Credit Union account number(s) and routing number 304083448 after the conversion on October 31.

Does this impact my mortgage?

Your Creighton mortgage will not change. You will continue to make payments as you do today.

Will I receive communication if my loan account number is changing?

Members will only receive separate communication if their checking account number changes. To confirm your loan account number with Cobalt, you can view your accounts in digital banking or reach out to our Member Service team through Live Chat, Text or Video Banking via the chat bubble at the bottom of your screen. You may also visit any of our branch locations or call 402.292.8000. 

How do I apply for a loan with Cobalt?

Will I receive a new credit card?

Your credit card will not convert to a Cobalt credit card. Effective October 31, 2024, Cobalt will no longer accept Creighton credit card payments at our branch locations. To make payments after this date, you can:
