Vehicle Titles & Registration

Need your vehicle title, transferring a title to another state, or help with a lien release? Find the information you need to keep your vehicle registration and ownership documents moving.

Where's My Vehicle Title?

After your auto loan is paid in full, your title will be released and should be received within approximately 30 days. Depending on your state, the title may be mailed to you or retained electronically through your state's motor vehicle agency.

If more than 30 days have passed since your payoff, contact us for assistance.

Out-of-State Title Transfers

If you've moved to another state, your new state's motor vehicle agency may need your title to complete registration or transfer ownership. Your DMV should send the title request directly to Cobalt Credit Union. We will work with the DMV to have the title sent to them.

Members should also make sure their mailing address is updated so they continue receiving important loan communications.

Auto Insurance Requirements & Claims

Your vehicle is collateral for your auto loan, so keeping the right insurance coverage in place matters. Here's what to know if you're asked to verify coverage or need help with an insurance claim.

Proof of Auto Insurance

Insurance coverage is required while your vehicle secures a loan. Members who receive a request for insurance verification should submit a declarations page showing comprehensive and collision coverage and listing Cobalt Credit Union as lienholder.

Insurance ID cards are not accepted.

Total Loss Claims

If your insurance company declares your vehicle a total loss, have your insurance adjuster contact Cobalt Credit Union directly. We will work with the insurance company throughout the claims process.

Members should continue making scheduled monthly payments and stay in contact with us if additional documentation is required. Settlement amounts may not satisfy the full loan balance.

GAP Protection

Protect yourself with Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP). Most insurance policies only cover the value of your vehicle, something that rapidly declines the first few years of ownership. GAP protection covers the amount of your loan or lease balance that insurance doesn't cover if something were to happen to your vehicle.
